TJ Lyons

Often praised by faculty and students alike, the TJ Lyons collection houses one of the most impressive type and ornament collections in the US. Despite its intrigue, it has been hidden in the depths of MassArt, lacking much-deserved attention. History informs the most successful graphic design, motivating my work in reinvigorating the TJ Lyons collection by bringing it to the digital realm. By building an online database to house its plethora of elements, I provide a model for digitizing and archiving the type, ensuring its preservation and continued use. In doing so, I enable the modern designer to explore and utilize the collection whether it be through print, digital formatting, or any other design medium. This expansive treasury of type provides the inspired designer with endlessly exciting questions and challenges that are readily explored through the website, a foundry that informs and equips such that the TJ Lyons collection can flourish again.
